We Work Hard So You Don’t Have To

For thirty years, Clay Crawford has been helping clients inside and outside of the courtroom. Clients appreciate that he gets to know them, he listens to them, and he fiercely advocates for them. While the facts and circumstances of each case are unique, Clay’s approach to all of his cases can be condensed to one simple idea: work wins. Clay has recovered millions of dollars for deserving families and businesses in all kinds of litigation and has helped clients plan their estates and navigate the probate process.

A small sample of his litigation experience includes representing

  • A mom and daughter who died in a house fire trapped by burglar bars without an emergency release
  • A child who suffered a permanent, debilitating brain injury from a misplaced breathing tube
  • A paraplegic client seriously injured by a defective wheelchair locking mechanism
  • A bicyclist terribly injured when hit by 18-wheeler
  • A father who died after receiving someone else’s medicine
  • A young model permanently scarred by a botched plastic surgery
  • An ex-wife denied her rightful share of a National Football League pension
  • A nonprofit organization suing the famed poet and author Maya Angelou for breach of contract
  • Mineral interest owners denied their fair share of royalties
  • A business shut down due to a lawyer’s mistake about a trademark
  • Businesses damaged by the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico

Clay grew up in the Houston area and attended the University of Texas at Austin.  While at UT, he also worked full-time in the Texas Legislature running the Capitol offices of two State Representatives and the House Committee on Energy.  This experience inspired a deep interest and respect for the law which ultimately led him to attend the University of Houston Law School.  At law school, Clay received academic and advocacy honors.

Clay has been invited to lecture on a variety of law related topics at the University of Houston Law Center, South Texas College of Law and Rice University and he has provided commentary on legal issues for local television programing.

Clay believes in serving others.  He was appointed by Harris County Commissioners Court to serve on the Child Protective Services Board of Directors where he served as its president.  During his service, he was instrumental in revamping the agency’s legal department and greatly expanding the number of lawyers serving abused and neglected children.  He was a founding board member of an organization providing clothing, toiletries, and other essential items to children in the child welfare system.  As a property owner in downtown Houston, Clay was appointed by Mayor Sylvester Turner, and approved by Houston City Council, to serve on the Downtown Houston Management District Board of Directors.  Clay has worked tirelessly to preserve the historic building which has served as the offices of Sears Crawford for nearly 20 years.  The building, which was built in 1881 and has been fully modernized, is designated as a City of Houston Landmark.  It has been recognized by the Houston Business Journal for its architecture and historic preservation efforts.  Clay is a contributing stakeholder in helping shape the North Houston Highway Improvement Project, the North Canal and improvements to the Historic Warehouse District.

Clay has been married to Sara Crawford, a licensed pharmacist, for 33 years.  They have two grown children, Katie and Grant.  Sara and Clay love spending time with family and friends, traveling, and serving in their church.
